BEIJING, November 1 (TMTPOST) — Disneyland Shanghai has suspended operation due to one visitor\"s positive results for COVID-19 on Sunday, October 31. According to the theme park’s announcement, it will shut down temporarily as a COVID-19 emergency response on November 1 and 2.

Shanghai’s pandemic control and prevention task force advised visitors who had visited Shanghai Disneyland between October 30 and 31 to report to their community, school, or company and get tested at nearby designated medical institutions.

On October 31, a traveler tested positive for COVID-19 in a regular COVID-19 check for trains entering Hangzhou city. The traveler who tested positive visited Shanghai Disneyland on October 30.

Shanghai Disneyland then halted the entry and exit of visitors upon receiving a notice from the local authority to test all visitors in the theme park. All visitors in Disneyland Shanghai were required to get a COVID-19 test at the theme park’s exit. Shanghai Metro suspended the operation of the Disneyland station of line 11 at 8:15 pm to reduce traffic crossing the area.

By 8:00 am on October 1, Shanghai had tested a total of 33,863 people who went to Shanghai Disneyland on October 30 and 31 and they all tested negative.

China currently has little tolerance towards domestic COVID19 cases as the country continues to uphold its zero COVID-19 case policy. Even one domestic COVID-19 case can make headlines in China and bring about heavy scrutiny and pandemic control measures from local authorities. For instance, travelers who have visited places that are considered of medium or high COVID-19 risk will have to present negative covid test results before boarding domestic flights.

For visitors traveling from overseas countries, they would have to go through a compulsory 14-day quarantine at designated quarantine facilities upon arriving in China. Guangzhou, for instance, has built a quarantine facility that provides more than 5,000 rooms for international travelers.
